Diabetes

Also known as hyperglycemia, Diabetes Mellitus Type II is a degenerative condition of high blood sugar caused from an inability of the pancreas to produce adequate insulin and also involves insulin resistance factors. Left unchecked, it can cause neuropathy, retinitis, renal failure, cardiovascular anomalies and eventual diabetic coma . With the average adult American expected to consume between 150-170 pounds of sugar annually, diabetes is a disease that masquerades as a sweet treat but can be a lifelong bittersweet battle with obesity, heart disease, nerve destruction and blindness. Considering the high risks, why is it so difficult to get under control?

Dr. Christenson is a lifelong proponent of healthy eating habits and exercise regimens and is a recognized expert in the areas of achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and weight management program. She includes various techniques which include:

  • Integrative dietary recommendations
  • Tai Chi and Qi Gong movement therapies
  • Nutraceuticals for glucose rebalancing
  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
  • Acupuncture for digestive meridian toning
  • Stress reduction
  • NAET

At CHI Medical Center, the first step to gaining control of Type II Diabetes is to eliminate the overwhelming  amount of dietary sugar from processed foods. Using sugar, salt and other chemical substitutes, the food industry and fast food conglomerates have brainwashed the taste buds of Americans to go for the sweet and the salty. Just eliminating the obvious food sources of high sugar and salt content is a good step to gaining dominion over the threat of diabetes and its serious side effects.

Although the biochemical chain of events leading to official Type II Diabetes is complicated, the simple truth is that genetically induced insulin depletion is a rare inherited condition and known as Type I Diabetes, formerly, Juvenile Diabetes. A childhood of soft drinks, ice cream, candy bars and sugary cereals graduates to more of the same and added sugars from wine, beer, hard liquors and canned, processed and convenience fast foods, loaded with more sugars and chemical sweeteners.  Such substitutes as aspartame and others, have been shown to be neurotoxic and cause changes to the hypothalamus, resulting in a downward spiral of unchecked weight gain, obesity, insulin resistance and full blown diabetes.

Patient Testimonials

“I have had neck pain for nearly as long as I can remember. For years I had tried everything known to western medicine. After many years of failed treatments, the pain continued to worsen and my neck started to get stiff. It was so intense that I had to turn my whole body to look sideways. Dr. Christenson felt confident that she could offer me relief . I noticed an improvement in my neck mobility the very first (acupuncture) treatment. After the three or fourth visit the pain was substantially reduced and I had more range of motion than I had for twenty years. I had sugar digestion problem, after three treatments I have been cleared of all sugar, fruit and vegetable allergies. My latest treatment includes Yellow #5, almonds and chocolate. I just returned from a weeks’ vacation. While I was gone I ate nearly every food I had avoided for 18 years and did not experience one reaction. This is just so amazing and wonderful!!” – Ron R.

“Over 20 years ago, I was diagnosed by my family doctor as being hypoglycemic. Until I started receiving acupuncture treatments for allergy from Dr. Christenson, I was ill from many allergies that I didn’t know I had. I am now – free from them, and I feel like I’ve been released from prison! I can now enjoy most foods without suffering terrible hot flashes, dizziness, panic attacks, and nausea, so that I was afraid to eat most things. Every treatment I receive from Dr. Christenson is successful, and I thank God I found her!” – Jackie B. K.
