Dr. Elizabeth Chen Christenson, MD, LAc, is the founding medical director of CHI (Comprehensive Health Innovations) Medical Center, a private practice in integrative family medicine in Kailua, Hawaii. Dr. Christenson is a recipient of the Top Doctor Awards, dedicated to selecting and honoring healthcare practitioners who have demonstrated clinical excellence, while delivering the highest standards of patient care. In addition, she serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at the Department of Complementary & Alternative Medicine at University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and teaches Integrative Medicine and Medical Qi Gong to graduating medical students.

Currently, Dr. Christenson is the coordinator of the Integrative Global Medicine Committee at JABSOM, which is developing the first post-doctoral program of its kind offered by an accredited US medical school. The fellowship and MS/PhD programs feature specialty tracts in East Asian Medicine, Ayurveda and Pacific Islander Primary Care (Hawaiian Healing). Dr. Christenson is also a co-founder of a Hawaii-based non-profit organization, GAMA (Global Advancements in Medical Arts) which is in alignment with the principles and practices of Integrative Global Medicine.

CHI Medical Center and Dr. Christenson are dedicated to an authentic integrative approach to medicine, with over three decades of professional experience in the field. Born into a medical family in Taiwan, she pursued a medical career and graduated from the University of Siena School of Medicine and Surgery in Italy. Subsequently, she moved to the United States and is regarded as a foremost authority in Hawaii, being board certified in Integrative Holistic Medicine, Medical Acupuncture, and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

Dr. Christenson practices blending modern techniques and skills with ancient treatments and solutions, and as such is a staunch advocate of alternative and complementary medicine. She carries out a wide range of treatments, including conventional and traditional procedures, such as acupuncture and acupressure and treatments that analyze and enhance a patient’s core energetic profile.  This blend of family medicine, integrative medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine can be used to treat people suffering from chronic pain, allergy, stress, and insomnia, as well as, skin disorders, arthritis, weight control, attention deficit, depression, lifestyle management and metabolic and degenerative disorders.

As a Certified Harp Practitioner, Dr. Christenson has received special recognition utilizing the soothing harmonics of music to relax patients and improve their mental and physical well-being. She has also released her own CD of therapeutic harp music. Dr. Christenson works closely with all her patients and takes quality time to ensure that each patient receives the full benefits of custom-designed treatment protocols. Dr. Christenson has a lifelong commitment to advancing medical education and the field of medicine through intelligence, technology and wisdom and providing expertise and excellence in compassionate patient care.
