What causes wrinkles to form in the face and neck?
As we age, the skin of our face and neck becomes more saggy in appearance. This is due to a decreased production in collagen, which is the fat that fills in our face. As we lose this filler our face falls flat, literally, and we develop fine lines and wrinkles in the skin. Other reasons why we see more wrinkles include sudden and excessive weight loss and lifestyle choices, such as smoking cigarettes. While lotions and creams help to fill the collagen on the surface of the skin, these methods are not long-term solutions for getting rid of wrinkles.
How do the Pelleve and ICON lasers work for wrinkles?
The Pelleve was approved by the FDA in 2009 as a treatment for wrinkle reduction on fine lines and moderate wrinkles. This procedure uses safe radio-frequency therapy to firm up the collagen underneath the surface of the skin. The ICON system is state-of-the-art, with a proprietary Skintel® Melanin Reader and Advanced Contact Cooling™. By focusing on the area where you have wrinkles, Dr. Christenson sends radio-frequency energy deep beneath the surface of the skin. This energy warms up the collagen under the skin. As it reconnects it holds together more firmly, lifting the skin naturally. This effectively remedies the issue of wrinkles in the treated area of the face.
How long is the recovery from Pelleve or ICON treatment at CHI Medical Center?
The Pelleve and ICON lasers are effective in just one treatment. These therapies take approximately an hour to complete. After this, you are able to leave the office and resume your busy schedule. You can start wearing makeup within a few hours after the pink tint and swelling subside from the treatments. You will see immediate results. However, for individuals with deep or longer lasting wrinkles, you will need to continue treatment for several months.
