Welcome to the CHI (Comprehensive Health Innovations) Medical
Center! I am Elizabeth Chen Christenson, MD, LAc, the founder and
medical director of CHI Medical Center which was established in 1994
in Ohio as an integrative resource for patients seeking a more
holistic approach to wellness and healthcare. The center evolved
from the concept of the life-force symbol of the CHI
= (Comprehensive Health
Innovations) and the contemporary infusion
of that into health and healing.
As a physician, I practice
the art of healing through the science of medicine. As a harpist, I
perform therapeutic music that inspires through the harmony of
spirit. As a mother, I promote nurturing, compassion and cooperation
for the well being of all life.
Specializing in family
medicine, integrative-holistic medicine and Traditional Chinese
Medicine, my practice bridges conventional and traditional medicine
with the best of east and west. With these concepts in mind, I
founded CHI Medical Center (Comprehensive
Health Innovations)
in order to custom-design individual healing programs that blend
allopathic technology with holistic wisdom. In this way, I am
pleased to partner with each patient in their quest for ultimate
wellness. CHI Medical Center’s home-like setting is a haven of
health awareness, located in the scenic valley of the Ko'olau
Mountain Range on the island of Oahu. Designed with the ancient
concepts of Feng Shui, the center has a unique relaxing interior
setup that complements the exterior beauty of Kailua’s fresh
mountain air, the sound of flowing streams, and the regenerative
energy of an eternal Spring.
Prior to establishing CHI
Medical Center, my medical education and professional experience
spanned three continents from my birthplace in Taiwan, where I came
from a lineage of hundreds of years of doctors and healers, to
Europe, where I received a medical degree and onto the United
States, where my medical career in family medicine and healing
center has become my life’s journey. I am also board certified in
anatomic and clinical pathology, medical acupuncture and
integrative-holistic medicine.
Professional memberships
include: Member of AMA, Hawaii Medical Association, Honolulu County
Medical Society, Diplomate and Fellow of the American Board of
Pathology-Anatomic and Clinical (FCAP), Diplomate and Fellow of the
American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM), Diplomate
and Fellow of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture (FAAMA) and
Diplomate in Acupuncture sponsored by National Certification
Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). In
addition, I am an Associate Clinical Professor with the Department
of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at John A. Burns School of
Medicine in the University of Hawaii and Associate Professor of the
Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Honolulu. A
Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner (CTHP) and Former chair of
the Board of Sounding Joy Music Therapy Hawaii.
Because I
believe authentic healing must incorporate all aspects of body,
mind, heart and spirit, I have expanded my own medical knowledge
with extensive studies in therapeutic music, integrated systems of
life-force energy and various forms of meditative thought processes.
I have released a CD: Meditative Therapeutic Harp and authored a
chapter entitled “Five Element Music” for the book Harp Therapy
Cradle of Sound. I have also produced a DVD on Medical Qigong, in
addition to guiding Qi Gong classes at Castle Medical Center in
Kailua.
In my holistic private practice, I coach patients on
healthy lifestyles and preventive medicine and specialize in chronic
degenerative diseases and elimination of pain, allergies, emotional
stress and substance dependency. My choice of modalities includes
acupuncture, metabolic therapy with herbs and nutrients, selected
pharmaceuticals and a comprehensive personalized perspective of each
patient’s special needs. This approach to the patient is based on
respecting the total person with individualized treatments that
incorporate the best of Eastern and Western medicine. I follow the
philosophy that patients are ultimately responsible for their own
health, and the patient and the doctor are partners in health care
management.
My medical services include challenged chronic
degenerative diseases, psycho-emotional stresses, allergy
elimination, acupuncture for pain and chronic illnesses, lifestyle
management, mind/body medicine, stress reduction, including
traditional Chinese healing techniques such as medical qi-gong,
herbal medicine, harp therapy. A main emphasis is success with
patients who have seen various doctors for many years and have not
found relieve through numerous typical medical modalities. I have
evolved an integrate process that helps each patient to achieve
their wellness optimum and be liberated from degeneration and
disease. In order to provide the highest quality of comprehensive
care for each and every patient, I am committed to continuing
advanced studies in the evolving field of medical science.
I
am currently accepting Medicare / Medicaid (Quest, Aloha Care,
Ohana Care) / TriCare patients and patients with private insurances
including and not limited to HMSA, B/B, UHA, HMAA, HMA, no fault
and many others. Contact: Elizabeth Chen Christenson,
